World no. 4 Daniil Medvedev has been the player to beat after Wimbledon, reaching five straight finals and scoring 24 wins in 27 encounters to make a great season an even better one. Just two weeks after reaching the final at the US Open and that thrilling clash with Rafael Nadal, Medvedev competed in front of the home fans in St.

Petersburg as the top seed and went all the way to become the fifth player in 2019 with at least three titles, joining Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Dominic Thiem. Medvedev is also a Tour-leading player with 54 ATP wins and eight finals, becoming only the fifth active competitor after Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray with five straight finals, starting the streak in Washington and hoping to extend it for more events.

“I have only one objective and that is to win every match I play. That is impossible but this is the goal that I pursue, I have managed to win four out of four matches in St. Petersburg and proved it to all the skeptics and myself as well.

I want to play in the final of the Davis Cup tournament and I want to help our national team; however, it will be up to my body to decide whether I will be able to do it or not. This new format is very interesting, I have always wanted to play for the Russian national team.

I will make the decision at the end of the season about playing in Madrid or not. London is also hosting the final tournament in November but the dates do not coincide and it will be very tough to manage them both. If the tournaments had been held simultaneously, I would have certainly not played the Davis Cup.

If we talk about the current roster of our national team, I should mention that Karen Khachanov and I are both ranked in the top-10. There are currently only two nations, which have two players in the top-10, Russia and Spain, and we are the favorites there.

The ATP Cup is a very cool idea. They have left only one tournament instead of three first tournaments. It resembles the Davis Cup but the format is different. It’s cool that we are going to Perth. There will be three teams only instead of the usual lineup of 32 players and we will try to qualify for Sydney.”

The tournament will be played inside the PalaAlpitour, a 15,000-seat multi-purpose arena built to host hockey games during the 2006 Turin Olympics.

Five cities bid for the event, including: London; Manchester, England; Singapore; Tokyo; and Turin.

“Our congratulations to Turin on putting together such a comprehensive and impressive bid,” ATP president Chris Kermode said Wednesday. “Italy provides us with one of the strongest and most established tennis markets in Europe and has a proven track record for hosting world class tennis events.”
